Hatchet Review by Rishi Sharma

Hatchet was written by Gary Paulsen in 1986. It follows the story of Brian Robeson, a kid whose parents are divorced. He is visiting one of his parents and being flown in a Cessna. The pilot has a heart attack and the Cessna crashes. Brian survived the crash. He only had a hatchet with him. The story follows him learning how to hunt and survive. Brian overcomes challenges such as wolves encroaching on his shelter.

I originally read this book in fourth grade but reread this year. I enjoyed the book. The pacing was quite good. The book had very vivid descriptions. I could imagine the scenery of the Canadian wilderness. I could see the wrecked plane inside the lake with the dead pilot. I would give this book an 8 out of 10. I recommend this book for those who haven’t read it yet.
