Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945. The book follows a bunch of farm animals that live on a bad farm. The farm is ran by an alcoholic farmer called Mr. Jones. The farm animals are neglected. Because of this, a pig named Old Major holds a conference and the animals decide to overthrow Mr. Jones. But Old Major dies so 2 young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, take over the animals. They overthrow Mr. Jones and they both teach the animals animalism. However, eventually the farm descends and the other animals recognise no difference between the pigs and the man.
Orwell said that Animal Farm represented the Russian Revolution and the eventual Stalinist era of Russia. I liked the book because the descent of animals from a hopeful society where everyone is equal to a downtrodden oppressive society was interesting to watch. I hope that there are more books like this. However, it is a bit confusing sometimes as the book was written a long time ago and some of the writing is difficult to understand. Despite this, this book is still considered a classic and one of the best books written by George Orwell. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed reading this book too, even if it is considered a banned book.
ReplyDeleteI read Animal Farm last year for the banned book project and I agree, it's a really good book. But I think there is more to say about the plot, although that may result in spoiling it.
ReplyDeleteGood review, I've read a few about Animal Farm, and I liked how this made the book seem interesting in a concise way.
