The Maze Runner By James Dashner

James Dashner's "The Maze Runner" is an exciting and suspenseful dystopian tale that takes the reader on a heart-pounding adventure. The tale takes place in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a young man called Thomas as he awakens in a mysterious region known as the Glade with no recollection of his history. The Glade is encircled by a seemingly impenetrable maze filled with hazards and secrets. The novel moves quickly, and the world-building is excellent, immersing the reader in a unique and compelling setting. The characters are well-developed and relatable, which makes it simple to feel immersed in their trials and tribulations. Dashner brilliantly creates suspense and tension, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat as they negotiate the story's twists and turns. Cinder by Marissa Meyer; A Review

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is a dystopian twist on the beloved fairy tale of Cinderella, with action, romance, and mystery. I read this for the first time during quarantine in 2020, after it being recommended to me by a friend, and it quickly became a favorite of mine. Likely due to its intricate world building and the compelling characters, making it a very interesting read. The story begins in the far future, where the technology is far more advanced, and a young cyborg mechanic girl named Cinder lives with her cruel step mother and step siblings. After being asked to fix an android by Prince Kai of her country, there is an outbreak of a deadly virus called Letumosis, which Cinder's stepsister Peony catches. Furious, her stepmother blames it on Cinder and sends her to get her experimented on for Letumosis. While Cinder is there, it turns out that she is actually immune to the virus, which bring up questions about her past, who she really is, and what the future will be like for her...

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

My dad recommended The Haunting of Hill House to me. I remembered that he had read it six times because we were visiting my family in Russia and it was the only book he had in English. At first, I thought that the book must have been excellent for him to read it so many times, but I was wrong. This was the most boring book I have ever read! I usually read in the evenings, but I could not read more than five pages at once without dozing off out of boredom. You would think that a psychological thriller about a woman slowly losing her mind in a haunted house would have you at the edge of your seat, but I found otherwise. The plot starts very slowly following Eleanor who takes her sister's car to drive off to Hill House as a part of an anthropologist's experiments to test supernatural occurrences.
